Do Industrial Researchers use Information Literacy Skills that they learned in College?

I tried to investigate this issue about two years ago, but hardly anyone answered my survey. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=VEPgxcssB81q4Nw_2baqV62A_3d_3d. Apparently industrial researchers don't want to cooperate with academics. So much effort is placed into information literacy in universities, but do professional use those skills? What is the sense of teaching skills to students if they don't use them once they leave academia. Industrial scientists need to keep up with developments in their field. If they are starting out on a new project, they must know that the work they are doing is new or else they could be infringing on another company's patent.
